FOOTBALL AND FREEMASONRY

On certain Saturdays along the sideline of football fields across Baltimore during the late summer and fall seasons, you’ll find Coach Damon Bridgeforth. From there, along the sidelines, coach Bridgeforth can observe the beautiful precision as his team performs their various parts and plays, against their opponents. Behind him you’ll find a corps of coaches and behind them you’ll find a small army of well instructed lion hearted young athletes, waiting anxiously for their turn to get in the game.

On one particular Saturday, behind Woodlawn Middle School, the Woodlawn Eagles played with tenacity and precision, and defeated their opponents easily. The Eagles are a well disciplined team, a product of good leadership, and it showed on the field. This season, the Eagles finished their regular season with a record of 9-1 and went on to win the Maryland State Division III Pee Wee Championship. Their terrific season only recently ended against the Jersey Shore Jaguars 6-0 at the semifinals of the Pop-Warner Eastern Regional Championship. But if you know their coach like I do, he will be back!

In support of Brother Bridgeforth and to meet lodge objectives, the members of St. James Lodge No. 2 volunteered with the football league this season, cheering for the team or serving food at the concession stand. “We get most of our satisfaction from playing a supportive role to Brother Bridgeforth and to these young athletes”, said PM Berkley Savage, who also serves as mentor for Brother Bridgeforth. The members of St. James Lodge No.2
are very proud of their members and make every effort to support them in and outside of the lodge. St. James Lodge No.2, established in 1845,is one of the three lodges that became the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Maryland & Jurisdictions, over which the Most Worshipful Grand Master Shelton D. Redden presently presides.
